Scientific publications
Scientific publications are the output of research. Researchers now produce about 100 new scientific publications each year based on research carried out at Lizard Island Research Station (LIRS), an output similar to that of a mid-sized university school.
All LIRS publications are listed on the Australian Museum website.
Many scientific papers are behind paywalls but an increasing proportion are published with open access. Some recent open access papers based on LIRS research are below.
Thermal acclimation of tropical coral reef fishes to global heat waves.
Johansen et al, 2021. eLife, 10:e59162. (4 MB)
Global decline in coral reef calcium carbonate production under ocean acidification and warming.
Cornwall et al, 2021. PNAS, 118(21): e2015265118. (11 MB)
Size-specific recolonization success by coral-dwelling damselfishes moderates resilience to habitat loss.
Pratchett et al, 2020. Scientific Reports, 10: 17016. (2 MB)

Coral reefs need our help
The Great Barrier Reef is a vital part of our ecosystem and a natural wonder beloved by Australians. It is a World Heritage Area that is at risk of being listed as 'in danger' in recognition of the many challenges it faces.
Science and the will for change are the only possible solutions. Our work is helping.
Will you help us?
