This year is a special one for us as it marks the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Australian Museum’s (AM) Lizard Island Research Station. It was established in 1973 after the then AM Director, Professor Frank Talbot, and an American benefactor, Henry Loomis, scouted for a location to establish a facility where researchers could study coral reefs. From its humble beginnings of tents on the beach, the Station is now recognized by those in the field as one of the best located, well run facilities for researching coral ecosystems.
All this could not have developed without the support of this Foundation, which in turn has been supported generously by donors for over 40 years.
