This book describes the animals, plants and other organisms of the reef, and the biological, chemical and physical processes that influence them. It also has chapters on shelf slopes, fisheries, climate change, coral bleaching, ocean acidification, coral disease, seabirds, invasive species and much more.

Pat Hutchings led the editorial team. She is a Senior Fellow of the Australian Museum Research Institute.  Prior to her retirement in 2016, Pat had a long and distinguished career as a Senior Principal Research Scientist at the Museum. She has been associated with the Lizard Island Research Station since its beginnings in the early 1970s.

Several of the 48 eminent scientists who contributed have done field research at the Station, and LIRRF donors have helped support important science in almost all the subject areas covered.

It is highly informative, richly illustrated and available on Amazon Kindle, through all good bookshops or by direct order from CSIRO Publishing.  See Flier (PDF 630 KB).
