On Tuesday October 19, 2021 the Lizard Island Reef Research Foundation hosted an informative and engaging webinar with leading Australian climate change scientist Professor Lesley Hughes. A highly regarded communicator on climate change issues, Lesley shared her insights into the findings of the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) which was released by the Intergovernmental Policy on Climate Change (IPCC) in August.  Over 100 supporters tuned in to the briefing which included an explanation of what the IPCC is, and how these findings could impact us all with devastating effect unless immediate action is taken.  The session also included an update by Lizard Island Research Station co-director Dr Anne Hoggett.

Lesley is a Distinguished Professor of Biology and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Integrity & Development) at Macquarie University. Her research has mainly focused on the impacts of climate change on species and ecosystems. She is a former federal Climate Commissioner and Lead Author in the IPCC’s 4th and 5th Assessment Report.
